The Hodges-Everett Family Reunion was initiated by the late Walter Edward Rutledge. Walter was the grandson of Gania Hodges, who was born in Warner Robins, Georgia. One day Walter learned from his aunt in Detroit, Lenora Hodges Nelson (Gaynor's youngest daughter), that there were Hodges family members residing in NY and PA. So In 1978, Walter decided to travel with his wife Estria to New York and Chester, Pa in search of the family.
Walter was full of love and excitement after meeting many of the Hodges family members. So excited that he suggested we all get together in Georgia, the state of our origin, for a family reunion.
This idea was discussed in New York, Chester, Pa., Detroit, Mi., and Perry Georgia. The late Christine Milton, the wife of Hodges Milton and daughter-in-law of the late Celane Hodges Milton-Harvey, volunteered to take on the task of uniting the Hodges-Everett Family in Houston County, Georgia. Soon after the Hodges-Everett Family Reunion became a reality, with the first one held in Perry and Kathleen Georgia in 1980. <3
It was then decided that we would unite as a family for a family reunion every three years and we stuck to it. An exception was made to celebrate the Millennium in the year 2000; we held a family reunion in our "Home State" Georgia. In 2006, family members decided to hold reunions every two years instead of three.
The Hodges family traces our roots to three known people: Gaynor Hodges, Sr. born in 1815 in South Carolina, Cherry Hodges born in North Carolina in 1817 and Pleasant Cummings born in 1815 in Georgia.
